Louise_ElinTell us about you and your baby?

Louise Ifan from Kingston, mum to Elin Mai who is now 11 months old.

Which Buggyfit class did you undertake?

Kingston Gate

How old was your little one when you joined?

I joined Buggyfit in July last year when Elin was 6 weeks old.

Were you apprehensive about starting exercise after birth?

Yes I was very apprehensive about starting exercise and admittedly joining Buggyfit. I didn’t have a smooth pregnancy, Elin was breech and despite several attempts to ‘turn her’ she just wasn’t playing ball so I had to have a c-section delivery. My recovery has been a slow process, my lower tummy muscles were and still are sensitive 11 months on, but I was keen to enhance my fitness levels prior to returning to work. I noted my concerns on the class health questionnaire and Anna talked me through the process of gentle easing back into exercise through Buggyfit.

Did you undertake any exercise prior to having a baby?

I’ve always enjoyed more of a class workout than simply going to the gym. I had seen posters advertising Buggyfit when I was pregnant so I knew I wanted to join as soon as I could. I registered with Anna straight after Elin’s birth and was able to join the class 6 weeks later after my GP sign off.

What was your favourite aspect of the class

Our classes took place on a Monday morning, I always remembered feeling so lucky to be able to spend the morning with my daughter in the park and having the opportunity to work out. It would totally set me up for the week!

Were you apprehensive about any part of the class

I remember being nervous about taking Elin to class when she was so little in case she cried. I soon realised I didn’t need to worry. Anna and the girls in my class were really supportive and there was usually one mum who needed to step aside at some point during the class to feed/change soothe baby!

How did Buggyfit help with your post all fitness journey?

Since having Elin Buggyfit has helped me to increase my core strength and stamina. More recently I’ve even been able to do a little bit of running (something I never did, even before pregnancy!). I am going back to work next month and Buggyfitreally enabled me to lose my baby weight and get back in shape!

Tips for new mums joining buggyfit

I would recommend using the car seat for your little one for Buggyfit class. I found it was a little more snug for baby on the park paths and grass than the pram and as an bonus Elin would usually fall asleep.

I’m Rebecca and my baby (or rather toddler now!) is called Archie, who now is 15 months old.

Which buggyfit class did you undertake?

After giving birth, I was really keen to work on my fitness and at the start I actually signed up to Buggyfit classes at Kingston Gate, Pembroke Lodge and Surbiton. As my fitness improved, I continued to attend the Kingston Gate classes.

How old was your little one when you joined?

Archie was 8 weeks old when I started Buggyfit.

Were you apprehensive about starting exercise after giving birth?

I have to admit I wasn’t apprehensive about starting up exercise again, rather I was too optimistic around what exercise I could and should be doing! Buggyfit really helped show me the importance of gradually working on my fitness, re-developing my muscles, and the types of exercises to focus on.

Did you do any exercise prior to having a baby?

Yes, I used to go to the gym 4/5 times a week.

Were you worried about any aspect of joining buggyfit with your baby?

Not really, no.

How did buggyfit help with your post all fitness journey?

Buggyfit helped me rebuild my core fitness, helped me with a post-labour fitness schedule, and also Anna would often suggest exercises we could do at home.

Do you have any tips for new mums joining buggyfit?

Buggyfit is certainly a class for mums of any level of fitness, and regardless of whether you’ve never done exercise before to having run marathons in the past, I would definitely recommend signing up for it. It’s such a lovely way to spend maternity leave…outside in the sunshine (hopefully!), getting yourself back into shape and meeting other mums and babies! Not only did it help my fitness journey, but I also met lots of local mums from the classes (I even met a new neighbour through BuggyFit and now our babies hang out together when we’re at work!). Furthermore, along with a couple of other mums, we organised a charity walk for ‘Born too soon’, which was a walk from Kingston to Hampton Court. It was a fantastic day, with hundreds of mums walking along the Thames towpath, and we smashed our fundraising target!

Were you anxious about starting exercise after giving birth?

I was looking forward to being able to exercise again but I was unsure how fit I’d be or how my agility might have changed.

Did you do any exercise prior to having a baby?

I used to exercise about 2 or 3 times a week before having a baby.

Were you apprehensive about any aspect of joining Buggyfit?

Buggyfit had been recommended to me by some other Mums so I knew there was nothing to worry about and I’d really enjoy the class.

How did Buggyfit help with your post all fitness journey?

It was brilliant to be able to go to a class which specialises in postnatal exercise and to be able to bring the baby along too. I always felt in safe hands and knew my fitness would improve without doing any damage to my body. Fitness isn’t the only benefit, it’s great to spend an hour outdoors getting fresh air for you and your baby with like-minded Mums. Even if you’ve had a bad night and feel exhausted there will be other Mums there in the same position as you who you can talk about it with, and afterwards you’ll feel so much better for having got out and about. If you unexpectedly can’t make a session though you can always attend another session which is great.

Which buggyfit class did you undertake?

Kingston Gate on Mondays.

How old was your little one when you joined?

3months old.

Were you anxious about starting exercise after giving birth?

Yes I was a little anxious but also keen to do some exercise. Buggy fit appealed to me because it would be tailored to new mums.

Did you do any exercise prior to having a baby?

Yes I did.

Were you apprehensive about any aspect of joining buggyfit?

I was worried that Catriona would cry/ be demanding and everyone would be annoyed. But she wasn’t and loved it. Anna was very understanding too and rocked prams for us which was great 🙂

How did buggyfit help with your postnatal fitness journey?

I felt a lot fitter and healthier after buggy fit not just physically but mentally too, it was great to get out in the fresh air and do something active, particularly during the winter months, which is when I started.  it was also useful to get an understanding of the exercises required to get your body strong again after giving birth.  Not much is discussed on this matter and I found the information Anna provided very informative.
